Why are some Dems trying to set the womens movement back?

So many of the Liberals here are saying that since Sarah Palin has 5 kids and has one with downs, how could she possibly handle the VP spot.

Why is it that it's OK for a man with young children (Obama) to be in the executive office but not for a woman (Palin)?

Doesn't that sound sexist to you? I mean, Obama has Michelle to take care of theirs, Sarah Palin has Tim to take care of theirs.

Only one s*x is able to breast-feed. So Palin's only other options for taking care of her infant is pumping, or formula. I personally, am not apposed to her having children. I just wish her infant was older.

If we suddenly want to take the stand that men can take as good care of children as women. (Which I personally agree with), then we need to get rid of favoring the mothers in custody battles and how many people with strong "traditional" values to do you see arguing that a man's place is at home with the children.

In my opinion children and family always come first. Always. Unless you're the president of the United States. And considering McCain's age...that's something people need to think about.

No, need to do that. McCain has done that on his own. If you believe for a second this pick of an unknown and unexpected candidate has ANYTHING to do with ANYTHING but her gender, you are lying to yourself. McCain is trying to 'use' women to get into the white house. How can you not be offended by that?

You're so deluded. Palin is probaly more anti-woman than McCain, and that's saying alot considering the latter has publicly called his own wife a "c**t who wears make-up like a trollop". Palin's not just pro-life; she's aggressively anti-choice and seems to have no qualms with depriving women across America of the option of contraceptives, abortion and health insurance. She represents everything that's wrong with Republicans when it comes to women's' rights, and considering she's a woman herself, that just makes this whole situation all the more perverse and sad.

We are not trying to set women back. We are wondering why a conservative pro family person would go back to work 3 days after giving birth instead of getting to know her child. We are wondering why those that have consistently said women should be at home suddenly don't care any more.  It's a choice to have so many kids. It's not usual today. It takes a lot of money and even more time to have a family that size. her husband works. Michelle doesn't. he can't be home with the kids. Who is? Are republicans now saying it's ok to have someone else take care of your children instead of the parents? It is contrary to their "family values" they have shoved down everyones' throats.

At least,Democrats had a the first woman to ever come this close to the presidency. Hillary Clinton worked so hard to get so close.Sarah Palin is being used by McCain to buy female votes. If anyone is being sexist,it's him for sure. He thinks that women will vote based on gender and not the issues. By the way,if McCain/Palin win,that still doesn't shatter the glass ceiling. It's really close,but only a female president would do the trick

The Democratic Party that has 288 members in congress:
