Here's an example:

Volume 1, Book 3, Number 58:

Narrated Ibn 'Umar:

Allah's Apostle said, "Amongst the trees, there is a tree, the leaves of which do not fall and is like a Muslim. Tell me the name of that tree." Everybody started thinking about the trees of the desert areas. And I thought of the date-palm tree but felt shy to answer the others then asked, "What is that tree, O Allah's Apostle ?" He replied, "It is the date-palm tree."

Volume 1, Book 3, Number 59:

Narrated Ibn 'Umar:

The Prophet said, "Amongst the trees, there is a tree, the leaves of which do not fall and is like a Muslim. Tell me the name of that tree." Everybody started thinking about the trees of the desert areas. And I thought of the date-palm tree. The others then asked, "Please inform us what is that tree, O Allah's Apostle?" He replied, "It is the date-palm tree."

It's has the same 'message' behind it. There are also many more. Is there a reason why it's repeated?

  1. Yes there is a reason, sometimes the chains of narration are different so the hadeeth is repeated with a different chain of narration to strengthen the transmission.

  2. Imam Bukhari was a master of hadith and he knew many many ahadith, but he only used 2000 or so hadith for Sahih Bukhari as these were the ones selected which met his stringent conditions for inclusion.

The chapter headings have been excluded from most online Sahih Bukhari hadith collections.  These chapter headings are vital to understand why the same hadith may be repeated.  Its best to ask a scholar this question for more details.

  3. those are some reasons of why a hadith could be repeated:

too many sahabas have heard the hadith, so many (rewayat:or hadith stories )are told ..

the purpose behind the hadith being repeated i believe..is bcz prophet Mohammed -peace be upon him-wants us to know the hadith very well and keep remembering the moral or the message of the hadith in different ways...:)
