    Why?

    Because languages don't just disappear, they change over time!

    It's called Linguistic Drift...

    Sumer is generally known to be a language isolate.

    Another language written in the cuneiform script called Elamite was recently proposed to be a Dravidian language, although the details of it is not widely known.

  3. you can fund strange similarities between ancient languages and modern ones such as the sumerian/hungarian hypothesis proposes by fred hamori. people have compared have apparently seen similarities between sumerian and a dozen or more languages including basque, latvian, japanese, etc. this does not mean that any of these languages are related to sumerian with the exception of perhaps hungarian which could has been accepted by others to be distantly related to sumerian.
