There's a new ruling this year that forbids square grooves, requiring players to use clubs with v-shaped grooves instead. But way back in 1990, club manufacturer Ping won a lawsuit that meant the Ping-Eye 2 clubs were approved under the rules of golf. That victory almost 20 years ago is still valid today, meaning those particular clubs can still be used. Some players have been digging out their old clubs to try and gain an advantage, including John Daly and Phil Mickelson.
