Why are some bio-ethnic groups more prone to diseases like Autism than others

I've noticed Germanic and Ashkenazi Jews tend have extremely high rates of Autistic Spectrum Disorders relative to the other groups of humans. Is there a correlation between capacity for gifted-level I.Q.s and also the potential for Autism as well.As the Ashkenazi are really a hybrid Germanic-Turkic people.
