Why are some cycling shoes so expensive.

They all weight pretty much the same even though some are made of carbon fibre and stuff.

My shoes are about $199 shimano pair and i put them next to a $600 sidi pair. They are virtually the same expect for colours and clips. And of course the price.

  1. sometimes more expensive is not always better.  you will have to look at the components that make the shoes, the materials used, and the brand name.  that usually is what determines price.

  2. Hey a little bit of weight makes makes a big difference in shoes because you are having to move that weight around and around over and over. It can really add up. Stiffness is also key the more the shoe flexes as you pedal the less energy actually goes toward propelling your bike.

  3. If you've ever studied marketing, you know there is a high coorelation between perception of quality and price.  Due to the huge number of pros that wear Sidi shoes, they are perceived as the top of the line.  In fact, Sidi is an innovative company that has pioneered many features found in cycling shoes.  Many regard them as being the most comfortable shoes on the market.  Furthermore, Sidis are made with replaceable parts.  So, if a buckle breaks or a heel plate wears out, you can replace it rather than throwing the shoes away.  Thus, even though they are no lighter than others, they still command the highest prices.

    Hope this helps.
