Question:

Why are some highways like the ohio turnpike poll taxed and some highways like I75 or I70 not?

What makes them diffrent then other highways? I know that money goes into repairing the roads but why not tax all highways there for they are kept nicer??

  1. There is a slight difference between the OH Turnpike (I80/90) & I70/75.  They are both paid for with our tax money.  I70 & 75 recieve most of their funding for repairs from fuel taxes at the pump & all the fees & taxes paid by commercial vehicles to operate in the state.  The OH Turnpike is a toll road.  You are directly paying for the priviledge to travel on that road, which is a tax.  That money collected at the toll booth is supplemented with fuel taxes & fees.  Unfortunately, toll roads are suppose to be toll roads until the bonds are paid off, but states realize they have a revenue resource, even after the road is paid off.   2. Because these highways allow you to dive a strait shot to a destination and are controlled by state governments and the Interstate roads are controlled by federal governments.
