Why are some men threatened by women that like sports and actually understand them?

Time and time again I've heard guys say that they would love to meet a girl that would watch sports with him and not have to explain everything to her. In my experiences most guys are rattled and taken a back when they meet a girl that has lots of sports knowledge. Why is that?

  1. i would love to have a girl that i could talk sports too and have her know what she was talking about so we could have real conversations.

  2. yes, some guys are total jerks to me. I hate it. I recently got a really mean commment from a guy when I said I was going for my card in Q school. I hate it when guys think i know nothing like Im babbling stupidness.. If a guy had says what I do, it will probaly get best answer most of the time. I completley hate it.

  3. Its true that most girls generally dunno much about sports, so when they actually meet one they get shocked that "a GIRL knows more about MANLY sports! I must be a loser!"

  4. I think "threatened" is a bit much. Only the most insecure guys would ever feel threatened; that's a strong word. (More on that in the next paragraph.) "Rattled" and "taken aback" I can understand but you could flip the question to women and if they are "rattled" or "taken aback" if they meet a guy that knows a lot about shopping or decorating. Some of the most well-rounded men take great care in understanding the finer things in life and what's important to their mate. Meanwhile, I would assume that some of the most wonderful women also take a great deal of interest in the same interests as their mate, whether it's sports, music or whatever.

I don't know your age but if you bump into a guy that gives you the impression that he's threatened by a girl who knows a lot about sports, he's insecure. It's obvious. He probably doesn't know more about any other topic so he acts like he's far superior since he perceives a girl as someone who shouldn't know as much about sports as he should. It's just a defense mechanism, one with which he will struggle until he realizes his deficiency.

  5. I'm not threatened by women who understand sports, I'm bored by them.  It's bad enough to listen to the perpetual "FOOTBALL!" grunts from the guys, but when the women start, I know it's going to be the end of civilization.

  6. To some it is intimidating, but I think most like it.

  7. This all depends on the guy. Some of us have never been threatened by a woman's ability and never by her knowledge. We appreciate  the fact the women are versatile  and are aware of the world in general. In otherwords we don't particularly like " Dummies".
