Question:

Why are some of the buds on my Rose Of Sharon turning yellow?

I planted my Rose of Sharon bush in April. It has been growing quickly & seems to be doing well. It has full sun for most of the day. I water it regularly & fertilize once a week. It is about 3 feet tall & has lots of buds on it. It had its first two blooms yesterday (purple, double-blooming flowers). I noticed, today, that a few of the buds are turning yellow. Is this something I should be concerned about &, if so, is there anything I can do to prevent this?

  1. No this is nothing to worry about. We had 3 of them (before we moved) and that wasn't unusual for the buds and the leaves to turn yellow. I think it had to do with either the heat or the lack of rain.

But again, nothing to worry about. Rose of Sharon is one of the hardiest bushes you can grow. My neighbor had a hedge of them and would cut them back half way and they would come back the next year as if nothing happened!
