Why are some parents so lenient? What is with parents nowadays?

I'm a highschooler and I know many peoples parents who buy them alcohol, let them go to parties late at night, and they don't seem to care. My parents on the otherhand, are quite strict and could never imagine me going to parties or drinking. I just don't find this fair! What is with parents nowadays?

I know right? One of my friends got PREGNANT.....shes not even 16 yet and her mother doesn't even really care....I mean, what the buck, right?

i totally agree.

it annoys the h**l out of me when i go to a store and see an unruly brat throwing a tantrum and the parents sitting there idly and not even attempting to shut the brat up and everyone around them has to listen to the kid's annoying screams.

the problem is parents today try so hard to be their kid's friend rather than their parent. they want to be considered a "cool" parent rather than a responsible one.

but in the long run, their kids will pay the consequences. if they've never been taught wrong from right, they will grow up spoiled and think they can get away with anything and will eventually end up in jail or fired from their job.

be thankful you have strict parents. i once said to my mother "when i grow up, i'll never treat my kids this way".  she said "if you love them you will".

A lot of parents now a days want to be their teenagers best friend and not their moral compass or guardian. They want to be "cool" parents.
