  1. Because of the untouched wildlife there. There are not so many places left like Alaska. Alaska's wildlife and fragile nature must be protected.

  2. They are supposedly concerned about the welfare of wildlife in the region.  They do not mention that the region in question is barren, coastal, NOT on any endangered species' migration route or habitat, and less than 1/10 of 1% of the total acreage in the Arctic Wildlife National Refuge.

Of course, it is very possible that they don't mention it because they don't KNOW it.  I find most people who just harp and parrot what some other group of people say are almost always incapable or too lazy to look up, explore, read, evaluate, and decide issues on their own.

As for links, no, sorry....I don't have them.  I do, however, recommend that you find the information (it's easy...just Google), read it, and make your own decision about the necessity of drilling in Alaska.

Just one other thing:  Did you know that Alaska was granted statehood on the promise that Alaska would develop her natural resources and pay her own way in the union?  Look that up, too, while you're at it.

  3. Maybe they like paying High prices for Gasoline.

  4. Well there's this report from the Department of Energy that says it's more or less a waste of time.

  5. duh people are against it

    proof?

it would have happened by now if people were not

  6. Because they believe that humans should be guardians of the world, not besmirchers of it.

  7. It isn't digging its drilling.

    The reasons are several.

    1. there is no guarantee that the oil reserves is that large in ANWAR, a Wildlife preserve.

    2. Many feel that the risk to the environment is not worth the effort.

    3. That whatever reserves are in ANWAR won't affect the price of oil enough to make it a viable alternative.

    4. Applying resources their will divert resources that could be used developing alternative energy supplies such as wind and solar

  8. Because its destrying one of the last nature places of beauty

  9. Environmental protection...  Personally, I hate to think about ravishing that wilderness but on the other hand, it will create jobs AND provide U.S. oil.

  10. Everyone seems to think we need more oil. The real problem is their is too much oil, the best thing that can happen is oil runs out, and we're forced to go alternative.

We have to get away from oil more drilling is not the answer. People fail to realize that the cost of oil , is not just what it cost when you fill your car, add to that the environmental clean up cost, cost to your health & health services, the cost of natural disasters that are becoming more frequent and more intense and so on. So you may pay $4.60 at the pump, but it might really be costing us $(A h**l of a lot more)  not to mention our future.

  11. drilling is the word your looking for

  12. Well, McCain for one, says drilling in Alaska would be like drilling in the Grand Canyon.

They don't want to harm the environment.  In Alaska the environment is very fragile.
