Why are some people against women who breast feed in public?

people are ignorant and dont realise that breast arnt just a s*x object and they are used to feed a baby....i heard someone tell my sister that she "should go to the bathroom and do that" and we kindly responded by saying "would you like to eat your dinner in the bathroom??? so why do you expect my baby too???"

I think it's great when mothers breastfeed their babies in public and don't give a c**p what any jerk wants to say about it!

Because people are uncomfortable with things they aren't used to seeing. That's my only thought haha, I'm not uncomfortable with it, I think it's great.

I'm not against breastfeeding in public AT ALL! But sometimes the women do just plop their whole breast out. I just think that it can be done in modesty...

I agree 100% with Jen's response. I breastfed my son like that too. I just felt that it was an intimate experience between us and other people didn't need to witness it.

because b*****s are so associated with s*x that people think its a sexual act.

Because they have not grown up seeing it.  Bottles have become normal to many people, while b*****s are mainly used for s*x.  that's not how it is in MY family, but that's how many Americans see it.

Many, many people don't even notice a woman who feeds very discreetly, but they always notice the women who feed very indiscreetly.  There are a few women out there who show breast on purpose.  I think that's fine for them (hey, anything to help normalize breastfeeding), but I try to avoid showing more breast than I have to.  Anyway, the people who only notice the indiscreet moms think that we all feed our babies like that, so they get bent out of shape because they think we're all "whipping out a boobie."  I hate that phrase.

Some women even have issues with their husbands or sons being able to see another woman's breast.  I don't get that one at all.

I have a problem when women breast-feed their children in public simply to make a social statement.  Those who breast-feed in public discretely are almost never noticed and if they are are never bothered.  It's the ones who fully uncover at the food court in the mall to make the newspapers and 6 o'clock news that make it more difficult for all women.

they are immature and cant handle it. breastfeeding is a mature thing. it makes sense right?

i breastfeed anywhere i want =) i have a nursing cover over me though.

i breastfed my baby in the hair salon yesterday, hope it didnt bother anybody!

They are puritans who are upset and don't know how to handle s*x and their own sexuality. They see everything involving a body part as being sexual. People who are mentally healthy and happy see it for what it is: a mother feeding her baby the way nature intended. No more, no less.

I think that some people do not know how to feel about it.  I personally do not breastfeed in public.  I go to one of the breast feeding room if I am in a mall to to the car.  Even when family, besides my parents, are over I excuse myself or use the milk pumped in the fridge.  When I do breast feed in front of anyone I make sure that I am completely covered.  I think there is nothing wrong with it, but at the same time I am not about doing anything to make people feel uncomfortable when it is not necessary.  There are things that make me uncomfortable that are OK to do that I wish people would not do in front of me so I offer the same courtesy.

Just something people arn't used to seeing and most people dont like things that are unfilmiliar.  Just dont be embarrassed, because it is natural!  I know some people who dont even think breast feeding is okay in your own home if you have people over, whatever!
