  1. The first human genetic trait to be identified and linked to a specific chromosome was colour blindness.

Colour blindness is a recessive trait with respect to normal vision, which is the dominant trait and is s*x linked -on the X chromosome.

Its all about genetics and what is inherited from parents.

    See link.

  2. People are colourblind because of a gene on the X chromosome.

You need all your X chromosomes to have the gene in order to be colour blind. this means that men need only one X to have the condition, but women need two Xs.

This is because women have the chromosomes XX and men have the chromosomes XY.

As a result it is very rare for women to get colour blindness becasue they need their mother AND father to have the gene, but men only need one parent to have the gene.

Women can pass colourblindness to children without actually being colourblind themselves (they are carriers) but men can only pass the gene along if they themselves are colourblind.

be aware that there are different types of colourblindness and each one is slightly different in terms of what colours get mixed up.

Note: why does it keep spell checking my correct spelling of "colour"? why cant we use the worldwide English spelling instead of American?

  3. it's all in the genes

  4. Colorblindness is inherited.
