Question:

Why are some people from New Orleans taking the hump about being evacuated?

It seems some people are annoyed at being moved out, and then finding out the hurricane wasn't too bad after all. I'm sure these same people would be unhappy if they had no warning at all and had been left there, and it had been as bad as Katrina.

  1. Live somewhere else! Why is people making a big deal about evacuating?

Well look. I lived in Miami for most of my life and being through hurricanes is no joke. But you don't want to leave because its your home! If you ever been through a hurricane (category 3 or higher) you would understand.

Those people in New Orleans were treated badly in 2005. No aid for days, people died not because of debris flying around, they drowned because the officials failed to fix the leavees and the entire city went under water.

They were called refugees at one time. Wtf, refugees??

Its a hastle if you don't have the means to get out of harms way! Its stressful to leave your home and come back to see your house was destroyed!

You would  complain too if you sat in traffic for 2 hrs just to get to the next county that would normally take 20 minutes!

I doubt if they are looking for a hand out, they have been through storms before. They want those leavees to function correctly and not flood their city!

Yeah I am mad because I read other comments and I see nothing but....well you know what I won't comment on comments! Everyone has a right to their opinion!

I just hope a natural disaster doesn't hinder them in the future.....but then again I guess they would understand!!

  2. There is NO HURRICANE.

  3. Evacuating is not a happy thing to do (also costs money) but it's necessary.  Even with medium storms like Gustav (that don't result in catastrophic damage), the power will be off for at least days, and EVERYONE KNOWS THAT.  New Orleans is actually rarely hit by hurricanes and people shouldn't complain.  Florida is hit almost every year (often more than once per year) and people in FL have to evacuate all the time.

There are people who would complain if the President stood on the steps of the Capital building in Washington and read the US constitution.

  4. I work at a hotel, and have people that have evacuated coming to my hotel thinking they will get the room for free. I can not understand why they expect anything for free when they chose to live in such a place. If you get mad about evacuating, then move somewhere else where that is not necessary.

  5. Kind of makes ya think these people would "P" in their own cereal in the mouning just to have something to bytch about !

You'd think they would be greatfull !

  6. Obviously you have no imagination at all. How would you feel if this were happening to you? How would you feel about having to leave your home and everything you own, everything you have worked hard for. Tensions run high, people say things they don't really mean, sometimes they can't think straight because they are under so much stress. I bet you are pretty young. You don't seen to know much about how life is. New Orleans is very important to the US. Have you thought about what comes through the port there to get to you and me? If not, you need to go there and look at how busy the port is and all that goes on along the river. These people can not expect to just pick up and move. This is their home! If the levees had been built correctly, there would not be this problem. No one can blame the people of New Orleans for the flooding, it is not their fault that the money appropriated for the levee system has not all been put towards making it safe and reliable. I am guessing there are about 300,000 thousand people in New Orleans alone. What about the other people along the gulf coast that evacuated? It wasn't only the people of New Orleans. In all there about 2 million people who are displaced with Gustav. That's not counting the ones who are still displaced from Katrina. Where would these people "move" New Orleans, and all of the others cities too. I don't understand the answers some of these people are giving about these people. They are just as much a part of the US as you are. To the posters that are whining about the people who evacuated, and it is a burden to them, I'm wondering why these posters don't move to another country so they won't be bothered with them. I am 100% on the same page as Kee_ni.
