People are mean for various reasons. But most people I noticed are mean to others because they are either unhappy with themselves or also because they are insecure with who they are.

because if they can't be happy they don't want anyone else to be happy either. its basically just jealousy.

for a variety of reasons, but more often than not they're unhappy with themselves. some reasons include jealousy, ignorance, arrogance, pettiness, just plain stupid....
