Why are some people so mean?

I know it sounds like such a childish question but I find some people to be mean for no rational reason. I've met people who just make fun of other people passing by that they dont know personally and expect me to partake in the "fun" (nothing strange about their appearance whatsoever, nor do they stand out).

Also, of the many people I've met in my personal and professional life, there are maybe a handful that absolutely despise me. I dont even think I've done anything wrong nor have I personally done any wrong to them. One person does not even acknowledge my existence regardless of whether not I smile at them, say hi, or try to warm up to them.

Another person I met, goes out of his way to be obnoxious to everyone.

And another person I know, intentionally acts nasty to me even when I'm being nice.

It's not like i'm even an outcast of anykind. I'm a pretty normal guy.

I just dont understand these people. Why are they so nasty?

i think some people are just ... mean by nature.

they feel like being mean is "normal" and they don't realize what they're saying or doing because they've done it so much,

if that makes sense.

and ive met soooo many people like that in my life too, they just make my life horrible but theres not way to control them... it definitely sucks but what i do is just be the bigger person and continue to be nice... hoping theyll warm up to me or something hahaa

My daughter is going to a public school this year, she's been going to a private christian school.  I'm scared to death of the things she'll hear or what kids will try to get her to do.  She will be fine I'm sure.  Anyways, I talk to her all the time to prepare her and I've told her I think girls can be worse then boys.  I think they have such a low sense of self esteem in themselves, they don't like anybody else to have it either.  I told my daughter to just let it go and not let anything someone says get her to think any less of herself.  Some girls cake on the makeup, I tell my daughter its a way to be noticed, they don't have enough confidence in themselves, they think they need more to stand out.  I tell my daughter less is more.  If they don't say hi, so be it, you know your the better person.  I'm almost (not quitte) 40 and I have grown adults still pick on me as if I was a kid.  I've actually gained more confidence in myself now than I had in my teens.  I hate it when someone treats you so decent when your alone talking with them and they act nasty when a crowds around, like their trying to impress them at your expense.    Your right, people can just be out right nasty sometimes.  Just blow it off and remember theres got to be something about you they wish they had themselves.

Nobody has hit on the answer yet so I will let you in on it.

People are mean when they are hurting.  The meaner they are the more they are hurting.  Maybe they're being mistreated or abused, gotten their feelings hurt, or had something stressful happen in their lives.

It has taken me a long time to realize this about myself but if you can be honest and look at the times when you yourself have been mean to someone, it's probably because they hurt you in some way or they were an easy target when someone else hurt you.

It's not your fault that they are mean people. They probably just have personal issues, some people sometimes need to release their anger on anything so they could feel better. Some of them are probably still learning that being mean and nasty to nice, innocent people like you has no point and won't do no good.

Don't bother being nice to them, ignore those who are mean, and until they learn to be nice, then you can interact with them.

Unfortunately, that is the way human beings are.  It's life.  The question is how do you handle a situation like that.  Do you let the insults bring you down or do you have the confidence within yourself to rise above the rudness you come across.  For me, I don't take anything to heart.  Why do I care about what some nimwad thinks of me.  I have better things that take priority over my life.

Relax and enjoy your life!

Yeah. I know what you mean. I guess something must go wrong in this world. But my absolute answer is their nature. they just don't know how to be nice to people.

But for some people, when they see a much bigger, richer, more handsome, smarter or have anything more, they start to be mean to you. Because they dont wanna be weak or little.

The fact is they just want more and more and MORE! And you know what thats what starts all these wars between humans. They just want more and by doing it they are being MEAN!
