Question:

Why are some people so obsessed with having a clean house?

does it really matter that much?

Just to clarify: I'm not talking about people who dust and vacuum for a few hours on the weekend, but people who spend countless hours every day making sure their house is spotless, then coming in to your average house and making comments about how some things may be dirty.

  1. maybe that person has to have a spotless house because they don't want to get sick or something, usually people who clean their houses every second they are old and want to live older

  2. like me? yes it makes me angry if my house is messy.

  3. I don't consider myself obsessed, but I grew up in a clean home.  So I am just more comfortable when my home is clean and in order.  Yeah, it gets messy when company comes for the week end or whatever.  But then I enjoy "putting it back together".  But hey, whatever floats your boat. . . . it's your home!

  4. Because your too obvious complaining about the state of my house.

Its because we like stuff fresh and clean. It gives us a renewed feeling of light and airy (aiiiirrr) and fresh. Its like drinking cold water on a hot day...

  5. I clean EVERYTHING daily, I'm a neat freak. It makes me feel good knowing everything is nice and clean. And I also have a baby who puts everything in her mouth so thats part of the reason why. BUT i don't go into other people's homes and make rude comments. I understand some don't think the way I do, so it's okay with me.

  6. My house is amazing and clean- I do spend hours cleaning. I enjoy the completed look and feel.

I don't think everyone needs to do that though. I think people should take pride in where they live. I would never point out an imperfection in someone elses house. BUT some people live disgusting- there's a difference...

  7. I think some of it has to do with TV advertising -- we're constantly bombarded with commercials of cleaners that tell us that if we dont use them, we'll get all sorts of diseases. But this is not true. Actually the fact is, when we unthinkingly clean our homes using the wide range of cleaners available in the market, we are exposing ourselves and our children to chemicals much more harmful than the dirt and grime we were trying to banish in the first place.

The use of these chemicals has two drastic consequences. First, as we touch or inhale these chemical cleaners, or encourage our children to play with toys that have been `sanitised’, our bodies absorb these chemicals. The effects of many of them are known but unsettlingly, there are many chemicals whose effects have not even been studied yet. So we don’t even know what they would do to our systems. Second, the water we use for cleaning gets contaminated by these so called cleaners, and endangers the environment by contaminating the ground water, lakes and oceans.

  8. dunno but I always think what saddos they are when there are so much more fun things they could be doing with their time, I think its a form of control for them, maybe other areas of their lives are out of their hands so they do the only thing they can control housework

  9. Some people enjoy it, find it relaxing, takes their minds off certain things, or like things very clean...

Another reason some people clean to too much is there life is out of control, dysfunctional...a clean home THEY CAN control. Drawing attention to your "dirt" could be a helpful hint, they are a critical person, or they are trying to control you. Again, can't control some craziness in their own lives, but might try to do it in others or compulsively clean their home.

    Hope this helps,
