  1. its that new show "h20".

  2. I have one word for you: Drunkards.

  3. its really sad.

    its the media.

  4. i believe in it.

    i've done it.

    i'm 36, married and a male, even.

    it works.

  5. They are morons....all of them!

  6. I agree that it's just children using their imagination. What worries me is that there are some irresponsible adults encouraging them to try different things that may be harmful (i.e....drink 2 glasses of salt water, jump into the ocean at midnight under a full moon, etc.). The last thing I want to see tonight is a news story about a little girl dying after she tried a mermaid "spell" she learned on Y/A.

  7. Some of us figure it's because they're hooked on this popular (and obviously fictional) TV show that's geared towards kids called "H2O: Just Add Water"

"The show's premise revolves around three teenage girls facing everyday teen problems with an added twist: they're mermaids with powers over water."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H2O:_Just_A...

I don't know why kids today are having such a problem figuring out the differences between fantasy/fiction and reality.  I'm guessing most parents have to work full time to make ends meet in today's economy, so all these kids on summer vacation must be bored.

  8. yess    we  are kids  but wer mermaids 2

  9. They are just kids.  Let them have their fun and wake up in the morning still wearing feet.

  10. I knew there was a social component to the whole mermaid thing, like the whole vampire renaissance is tied to the Twilight series, and wizardy was very popular during the Harry Potter boon, I just didn't know what it was.

As for why kids want to be mermaids, think of it as the Everest factor. So many things have been done already that kids, and many adults, are looking for new, more exotic role-models to make their life more exciting. So many people are baseball players now, and its such an established 'goal' that dreaming of becoming a baseball player (or some other sports icon) is no longer exotic as it once was. Who dreams about growing up and being ordinary, average?

  11. I have no idea, but it is also driving me mad.

I'm not a part of a society, but i believe in magical beings, witchcraft and spells.

    But this mermaid thing??

I think too many people have been reading too many fictional tales.

They'll be telling me i can turn my shetland pony into a unicorn or my brother into an elf next!

  12. It's some atheists skeptics flinging poo aroung.

  13. Because they are children and they have big imaginations. I remember believing I could turn into a vampire (like the kind in Lost Boys lol!) when I was little. I highly doubt anyone over the age of 11 asks questions like that.

EDIT: Oh, wow. I just scrolled down and read all the mermaid questions. Now, I see what you mean. That is bizarre.
