They can not ruin your life unless you allow them to.  Much of what we have to deal with in life is out of our control, including the behavior and attitudes of those you mention.   We CAN control our own attitude..soooooo....choose to work on becoming the good person YOU want to be.  No matter who it is, others will help you get there simply by being who they are.  If they are kind, they will be an example of what to do...if they are d...heads...they will serve as an example of what not to do.
