Is there a certian reason that we call them weeds and flowers? Whats the distinction...I've seen pretty weeds and ugly flowers, so I don't think its their beauty that counts. And it can't be because they only grow wild or in a garden....anyone have an idea?

  1. flowers are cultivated, weeds are not.the day a weed starts getting cultivated, u too will call it a flower.

  2. A weed is simply a plant that is out of place or in other words a weed is a plant that is called a weed because people don't value it.

  3. It's a weed if it doesn't fit your purpose.

You want grass on a lawn because it's pretty.  Weeds aren't.

You want corn on a field because it feeds people and gets you money.  Weeds don't.

If your purpose is to grow a "weed" then it's no longer really a weed.  (Some herbs are a good example.)

In other words, it's relative to function.

Of course, it can get confusing when you start mixing definitions like "edible weeds" or "usable weeds."  In these cases, they're weeds relative to the usual purpose, but then useful in a different context.  So also, weeds generally grow fast, and more importantly, are hardy.

  4. There is no such thing as a weed, onlyflowers that we don't know how to use yet. What if a life saving drug came from a weed instead of a flower? Would you still take it to sae your life?

  5. In my opinion they are all flowers and some are wild flowers.  Wild flowers can become a nuisance in a garden because they tend to 'take over' and in time there would be more wild flowers and the flowers bought for the garden would disappear.

    What is a Flower

All plants produce flowers for the same reason: to make seeds so another plant can grow.

A flower is the part of the plant that makes the seeds. The main parts of a flower are the carpels and stamens. These parts are often found in the center of the flower. There are egg cells in the carpel and pollen cells in the stamen. All flowers have four basic parts: sepals, petals, carpels and stamen. Different flowers have different numbers and shapes of these parts.

Plants that are undesirable to any can be called weeds Any unwanted

or plant that you don't want can be called a weed.Example some

people use dandelion leaves and make salads with them ( thus they

are recognized by them as plant and others recognize them as a weed

and pay a lot of money to gardeners to get them out of their

    gardens.

Some plants which we can refer to as weeds  eg. goldenrod can be

used by some for medicinal purposes and thought of as plants.

  7. it is because ppl are stuck on things that make the sun shine and that world go round ppl are stuck on the bright colors they see that the beauty is not there and they immediately shun  it and think of it as nothing there's a deeper meaning to this and I'm just stating the facts it's how the world is and that's how it might stay for a long time....

  8. A weed will pop up anywhere and will overrun any other plant in the immediate area, but a flower is something you have to plant in a specific area or, in the case of wildflowers, won't overrun other plants.
