Why are some public schools mandating uniforms now?

Why are they doing this AND why are some public schools doing this while others aren't, whats the difference between?

No public schools did this when I was kid!

  1. It's a trend many schools are picking up on due to the fact that uniforms are an equalizer.  Theoretically, you can no longer look at a person and identify their social class merely by what they wear. It also limits the number of kids wearing inappropriate clothing (low-cut clothes, gang symbols, jeans that are falling down, offensive statements, etc.)  Those schools who haven't yet are either unwilling to cut a student's freedom of expression or they just haven't been able to talk enough parents into it.


  2. Probably because kids dress so horribly for school nowadays-guys with their pants hanging off their butts, girls with low-cut tops and short, short skirts that are asking for trouble. I don't blame the schools for doing it.
