why are some roads made of concrete, and others asphalt?

at first i just assumed one had become obsolete and they started using the other.... but thinking back on it, that can't be right because as far as i can remember i've seen new roads in both asphalt and concrete, and they're still being built with both materials today.

then i thought it probably had something to do with the region, but refer back to both still being used... if it were for region specific purposes you'd see prety much all roads paved in one, and in another region it might be the other...

so why is it?

  1. they usually use concrete on roads that very heavy vehicle's travel on because asphalt is not as strong as concrete so that is why they use concrete instead of asphalt
