Why are some schools so pro tected by metal detectors are we in an airplane terinal?

So people dont get killed at school. There have been so many shootings that this is the safest environment for a teacher and the students around you.

You dont wanna get shot with a gun by just simply going to school do you?

Schools with a history of violence (gun threats, knife threats, etc.) tend to have metal detectors. Why? For the students' safety, of course.
