  1. It's a term that refers to a whole group of people who are related based on ethnic and historical connections.

Spain and Portugal in the 16th century spread into and colonized much of the newly "discovered" North and South America. They intermarried with the native populations, and eventually this led to the creation of a large number of new countries (like Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil, etc.). These new countries, Spain, Portugal, and the inhabitants therein, are referred to generically as "hispanic."

  2. more than likely hispanic people are generally those of latin america and those of that origin. whereas the latin european countries (france, spain, portugal, romania and italy) are not referredd to as "hispanic" but rather simply as "latin."

hispanic people are mixed. they are a mixture of native indigenouss people (aztec, inca, etc) and europeans.

  3. hispanics, originate from the spanish and portuguese

  4. hispanics are people who speak spanish and have a culture that is heavily derived from the culture and customs of Spain. Hispania was the old name for Spain, and thus people and places that have heavy Spainish influence are called Hispanic.

Some hispanics are mixed, especially in latin america, whereas others are of mainly white, or black, or native american ancestry.

  5. "Spanish" people are from Spain.

Columbus, who was funded by the Spainish government, first landed in the Western Hemisphere on the island that is now known as Haiti/Dominican Republic.  At that time, Columbus named the island Hispaniola.  Hispaniola became one of the main trade ports for the rest of the Spanish and Portuguese explorers (Magellan, Cortez, etc.), who were the ones who brought the "latin" culture to Central and South America.  That's why latin-american people are referred to as "hispanic".

  6. Mexico population was once 50% White European (Spanish as in from Spain).  About 15% of Mexican population remain White today, mostly upper class people in Government and Media.

Mexico also had a large population of Amerindians.  The modern day Hispanic is a cross of Spaniard (White European descent) and Amerindian (Asian descent) of varying degrees.

Hispanic is sort of a catch all term.  Mexican Whites call themselves Hispanic too.

  7. The Latin word for Spain was Hispania. Hispanic is a catch-all word for people, mostly Central and South Americans, whose native language is Spanish. Latino also refers to people from "Latin America" - Central and South America - and includes Brazilians, who speak Portuguese.
