Why are speed bumps legal?

Ok, I get it that fear of car damage will make most people slow down, thus making those roads safer. But for the people who don't (we've all seen 'em), won't the damage end up eventually causing accidents anyway?

  1. Its good to have speed bumps because it helps slow drivers down. Of course I have seen some idiots that just fly over them anyway and then they wonder why their car does not drive right.

  2. so people dont race around where there is going to be alot of pedestrians.

  3. because we all hate the guys who drive those lowered honda lawnmower cars with the irritatingly loud exhaust pipes. i love to see them grind their under-carriges on speed bumps!

  4. Lawmakers have seen that it is advantageous to implement them. They use statistics and studies to prove their effectiveness in reducing speeding and reducing the number of pedestrian vs. auto wrecks.

  5. they just put em there so they can make me mad they know i drive fast

  6. Speed bumps and speed humps are both good and bad.

They do save lives but they also hamper drainage to roadways and hinder emergency vehicle to some degree and for the person that does not slow down they loose control and hurt or kill people.

It is up to the driver to obey the rules of the road and we can do our part by reporting these vehicle that don't drive safe, will it work, maybe but it will get their attention.

  7. .

In the UK they are commonly referred to as "sleeping policemen" and are placed where there is a likelihood of  drivers driving without due care and attention.

The "sleeping policeman" encourages a lower speed and ultimately less loss of life.

Damages to vehicles can be repaired or replaced. The life of a child cannot.
