because we fans are grossly overstupid and pay the tiicket prices that sports teams want to charge. What if they gave a Superbowl and nobody came ?????

Because they provide entertainment...just like actors, or artists, or authors. It is just the way things go I guess

They aren't. They get what the market will bear. If everyone quit buying tickets, and TV stop broadcasting sports events (they pay professional teams obscene amounts of money to do that), then salaries would fall dramatically.

u see it because alot of people like to see them play like for example if jordan was still playing basketball alot of people will come and see the game but if he is not playing a little of people will come so the nba or the chicago bulls will pay him alot so he will stay.

Sports Players have obscene salaries because Sport is such a popular entertainment, money is poured into the game from Sponsorship deals, TV Deals and normal people paying for Match Tickets, Merchandise etc etc.

Many people believe that too much money is in sport, and there have been steps to reduce the amount, but because of the popularity of sport such as Football, Cricket and Tennis these steps have had little impact.
