  1. There are several colors of stars. Not all are yellow. This depends upon their temperatures. White stars are hotter, and red stars are cooler than the Sun.

  2. In general, the star colors aren't bright enough to be seen well, especially if you live in an area with a lot of air or light pollution. If you can get to an area with dark skies, some red stars can be seen quite well. Examples include Antares, Aldebaran, and Betelguese.

  3. they are not absolutely white. it is just because of the distance from the earth and as you can see. some stars are even blue or red. and probably because of the earth's atmosphere.

  4. The sun is the color it is due to its temperature (primarily).  If it were hotter it would be white or blue, cooler it would be orange or red.  So, the colors of stars varies from blue to red (I don't mean individual stars, but from star to star) based mainly on their temperature.

The stars ARE colored, but the light we get from them is fairly dim and doesn't excite the color receptors (the cones) on the retinas of our eyes very well.  If you look through even a small telescope (or binoculars, for that matter) you will see the colors of the brighter stars much more clearly.

  5. There is a large variety of stars out there in different colors from blue to white, orange to red, and of course the yellow stars, so technically, they should not all be yellow like the sun. If you look closely though, you can tell the color of some of them. However, the reason they primarily look white is because the light is so immense and the distance is so great that the actual color of the star is lost in the immense brightness so what you primarily see is white. Even the same effect occurs to the sun the farther away you get from it. If you were on, oh lets say Saturn, looking at the sun from such a distance would make it look more white than yellow.

  6. The Sun is white! Oh, I know, it is often described as a yellow star, but on a clear day when the Sun is high in the sky, it is obviously white. Daylight is white and it comes from Sunlight, which is white.

However, there are different shades of white, as any interior decorator knows and anybody who tries to buy white paint knows. The Sun is a "warm white" rather than a "cool white". Warm white is a little more yellow and cool white is a little more blue.

So the Sun, and all the stars, are really different shades of white. If you look carefully at the stars at night, you will see some of them are distinctly cooler or warmer white. Winter is a good time to do this, because the area around Orion has lots of bright stars that do show color tints if you look carefully. BETELGEUSE (upper left bright star in Orion) is definitely reddish and RIGEL (lower right bright star) has a slightly blue tint.

  7. For all you brains out there (duhh)--the colour of a star (and that includes Sol) is subjective. That is, in outer space there is no colour. We see a colour because ot rhe interaction of a light wave with the medium through which it is passing. Our sun (Sol)  is not yellow.  It appears yellow to us, or sometimes red, or another colour  because the light waves are passing through our atmosphere which varies in composition.

  8. The other stars are far away from us and the sun is not far away from us.

  9. Our sun is not yellow. It is a special form of white - the emission spectrum of a 5500K black body, which has the same average temperature as the surface of the sun.

  10. when theye are old

  11. no the sun's mass is NOT greater than the other stars it is just closer than the other stars. Some of the stars are trillions of light years away; therefore, they apear small to the human eye and white.

  12. since when is our sun yellow?

  13. Because the sun's mass is greater and much closer to earth.
