I use professional hair products, Redken, Bed Head, Nioxin, but i dont really know exactly why people say store brand hair products like pantene and herbal essences are bad for your hair. I guess its the waxy coat it leaves on your hair?? i dont really know, but i do also REALLY like John Frieda Brilliante Brunette cuz it makes my hair SOO shiny and silky. I know A TON about hair and im going to cosmetology school in october. But this is one thing i really never understood. Any of u hairstylist know exactly why?? Thanks ;-)

  1. The reason is is that the cheaper products like pantene and garnier and dove have a VERY HIGH pH level when compared to the higher end products like redken and other salon shampoos where there is a more balanced pH to them. So basically, it's like washing your hair in high detergent. Think abooiut a cashmere sweater.... if you wash it with TIDE instead of taking to the dry cleaners you will eventually ruin the sweater and get a lot of little tearing and frizz in the material. I have been a hairstylist for many years and I can always tell as soon as someone sits in my chair they are using the wrong shampoos due to the split hairs on the shaft reaching all the way from top to bottom of the strand. Stick with the good stuff! REMEMBER: once your hair splits there is no way to mend it back together!!!

  2. I don't think they are. they sometimes have more water in them, so you have to use more product to get the same effect as the more expensive brands. That's all.
