When you are asleep, your subconscious imagination is on the loose. When you are awake, it is suppressed.

I think this is because you probably let your imagination out in your subconcious and when your relaxed/vulnerable even you let your emotions which equals to your imaginations to come pouring out. Don't worry too much, i'm sure it happens to a lot of people ...
