  1. Because the underaged kids who work in them work very hard

  2. Presumably because people do difficult labor that causes them to sweat, or work around hot machines.  Sweatshops are generally not well ventilated and almost certainly don't have air conditioning.

  3. Because when the term was first coined, it referred to shops where the employees worked very hard for very little money. They had to sweat to earn their wage.

  4. cause ya sweat in a shop.

  5. Always  low wages, long hours and health risks describes a sweatshop.

  6. Because of the poor working conditions.  Having to sweat all day at a job because the work is very hard and there are few if any comforts in the workplace.  Conjures a picture of someone working hard with sweat pouring off.

  7. There are "sweatshop's" everywhere, and it is because they are generally very hot and unventilated. But, as of late when talking about sweatshops most think of kids working overseas. The US was famous in the early 20th century for having "sweatshops" in the clothing industry. There were many fires & deaths contributed to these bleak working conditions

  8. air conditioning costs money and it is hot in malaysia.
