    and just because they are chubby has nothing to do with the fact that they swim

    Most swimmers are in great shape since it is a sport that requires a total body workout. Some chubbier people might swim to get in shape since it is great exercise, but all olympic swimmers are in great shape.

    i've been swimming competitively for 5 years and i now have too much muscle.

    but then my mate is a backstroker and he still has a chubby stomach so maybe it depends on the stroke you focus on.

Look at a shark or a dolphin.  You don't see bulging muscles on them either yet they're the most powerful swimmers in the ocean!  Swimmers want to be sleek to cut through the water.  The really good ones will be toned, not "buff".  They want long, lean muscles capable of holding lots of oxygen to power them through the water.  Swimming is the best exercise you can do for your body.  You're not pounding it against unforgiving ground like a lot of other sports and it isn't a contact sport.  That's why Dara Torres can still compete at 41.  She hasn't torn her body to shreds.

  10. i can't think of many swimmers that are chubby... Swimmers can burn calories ridiculously fast.  Swimmers have to eat and eat and eat to keep themselves from losing too much weight.  Have you seen the kind of meals that Michael Phelps eats?  He eats like 3 egg sandwhiches and pancakes and stuff every morning for breakfast and he is NOT chubby.  Swimming works out your whole body, you use your legs, arms, and abs.  Have you seen the abs and shoulders of those olympic swimmers?  Its all muscle.

  12. I don't know ANY good swimmers that are chubby. My swimmers eat like horses just to keep weight on!

    Swimming is a whole body work out. You cannot kick your legs without using your stomach muscles...duh!
