  1. i think you need to find out more about what exactly you're asking about. indigenous connotes tribal.  the groups you mentioned are classified based on the first language they speak and/or the place where their family originated from.

  2. the indigenous people's act of 1997 was meant to give the tribal natives a distinct identity so their claim to their ancestral domain would have legal basis.

  3. no they're not. it is how you have construed the term indigenous people under that act made them one, but the only ones considered are the Moros,Igorots,Aetas,Ibalois,Isnegs,Mangy... many others.

btw, there being a christian doesn't remove their status as indigenous people.they are already christians.

  4. Bitoy and LarryCruz are so right. The ones you mention are not indigenous people. As defined by The Indigenous People's Act of 1997, indigenous people/communities refer to a group of people or homogenous societies identified by self-ascription and ascription by other, who have continuously lived as organized community on communally bounded and defined territory, and who have, under claims of ownership since time immemorial, occupied, possessed customs, tradition and other distinctive cultural traits, or who have, through resistance to political, social and cultural inroads of colonization, non-indigenous religions and culture, became historically differentiated from the majority of Filipinos.

Some indigenous people are Isneg, Igorot, Ifugao, Itawes, Yogad, Gaddang, Isinay, to name a few.

  5. Probably because that law was written by Tagalogs, Cebuanos, Ilonggos, etc.

My Dictionary defines the word as "originating in and typical of a region or country"

But lawmakers have a penchant for redefining words to fit their every whim and caprice, and thus, I think our colleague, Champagne, had the good grace to supply this page with what they mean.

However they word the law,  we citizens must abide, whether indigenous or not:  "The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread."

  6. indigenous means you are isolated enough to retain a culture unique to your community. the groups you mentioned have assimilated spanish, western, and each other's cultures

  7. hhmm i thought indigenous is like a native .. i dont think their foreigners to me though as long as their not chinese or some people who migrated to the philippines  that what i called foreigners to me :)
