  1. Risotto is just rice that has not been washed clean of starch before cooking, so it is extremely versatile, not just the Italians like it. The Spanish like rice too and all of latin america, but with the starch washed out first, then lightly fried in oil and finally with some good chicken stock added plus any combination of seasonings of which there are many.

Perhaps its that very same versatility that fascinates cooks with shows that air on the BBC.

  2. I know!  I've said the same thing before.  On every episode of h***s Kitchen, they are always making a risotto.  I don't know why they don't make something different once in a while.

  3. Probably because they have never heard of my grandmother's Domatorizo with Feta? See: http://greekgourmand.blogspot.com/2008/0...

    :)

  4. I've wondered the same thing. I watch all of the cooking shows myself and it seems they all have risotto. I've never even eaten it, have never seen it offered in the restaurants I've frequented. However, I don't usually go to the high-end establishments either.

  5. Well I'm from Devon i don't know anyone with a thing for risotto also alot of guests on these shows are Italian so cook pastas like risotto!
