Why are the Kings stockpiling so many Defensemen?

I am a Kings fan and I don't understand what they are doing. Can anyone put some logic behind what they are doing? They have like 8 Top defensemen prospects after this draft. I dont mind the defensemen but why so many? Every top pick has been D. Makes no sense to me at all!

How is this going to help down the road.

  1. Offense wins games.

    Defense wins Championships.

EDIT: The Bruins did a similar thing, but they chose all Centers except a goalie. THAT's what I don't understand.

  2. Probably due to their S****y goaltending.

  3. It's the wave of the "new NHL". Look at Anaheim and Detriot, the past 2 cup winners. Amazing depth at defense. In fact, Detriot was so deep and good they benched Chelios for the finals!!!! I know he's old, but that says a lot about they're talent. Beyond that, there are so many good teams that puck handle REALLY well (Detriot is perfect at this), and the only way to counter that is tight defense. Next year goalie pads will be regulated, so that's another reason.

My answer may not be to everyone's liking, but I watch TONS of hockey and can analyze it well. Thanks:)

  4. They already have Bernier as their future starting goalie. Their offense is ready for years to come with guys like Kopitar, Frolov, Brown, and Sullivan. Their defense isn't that great though. Visnovsky and Preissing are offensive d-men and Jack Johnson's alright, but is going to be great in the future. Their defence is going to look incredible in the future.

  5. Proven defencemen are the best commodity to have at the trade dealine. Makes a lot of sense if you look at it long term.

  6. there going to have a stud defensive core. defense wins championships

  7. at least ur not a devils fan

well maybe now theres a team with more defenseman than nj

  8. Actually, it makes a LOT of sense. Look at Detroit. How did they win the Cup? Defense, defense, defense. Even their forwards were good at defense, but take away Kronwall, Stuart, and even Lebda and Lilja, and they wouldn't have gotten out of the first round. For every prospect that becomes a star, however, a dozen of them flop. 8 top defensemen prospects will certainly do. And if you end up with 7 that are good, you've got trade bait for the final piece of your Stanley Cup puzzle. The Kings, right now, look like one of the smartest teams in the league. You'll find a scorer down the road a h**l of a lot easier than a top-flight defenseman.

  9. Good Defensive core plus extra prospects to trade for proven offensive studs is a winnign formula imo.  D-Men also tend to last the longest at their position and play the longest at a high rate.  If you can develop a solid group, you can almost gaurantee you will have a solid group for years to come.

But mostly, like I said, if you have all the prospects, teams are going to be knocking at your door looking to add some of them to their squad in exchange for veteran or prospect fowards.
