Seriously, I want to know. They're very uptight about Sarah Palin using the word "God". Why is this?

  1. i'd assume it's because the whole point of a democracy is to separate church and state.

Obama has used the word go too so i don't think it's that big a deal.

  2. because god was used to concur lives and nations in the crusades. we do not fight for god. we fight for justice. god gives true Justice in heaven and what we try to create is a man made justice that isn't gods will. you do humans work and let god do his own work. i find it tacky to use gods name to justicy war or any action. he gave us free will for a reason.

  3. We have had 8 years with a fundie nut job in the White House and see what that did for us.

“Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man”

“Religions are all alike -- founded upon fables and mythologies”

    - Thomas Jefferson

"My earlier views of the unsoundness of the Christian scheme of salvation and the human origin of the scriptures have become clearer and stronger with advancing age and I see no reason for thinking I shall ever change them."

    - President Abraham Lincoln

"The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason." — Ben Franklin, Poor Richard's Almanack, 1758.

"The Bible is not my Book and Christianity is not my religion. I could never give assent to the long complicated statements of Christian dogma." — Abraham Lincoln.

"What have been the fruits of Christianity ? Superstition, bigotry and persecution." — James Madison, 4th president of the U.S.

"This would be the best of all possible worlds if there were no religion in it." — John Adams, 2nd president of the U.S.

"Paul was the first corrupter of the doctrines of Jesus"

    -- Thomas Jefferson

  4. Because they think we should leave religion out of Government.

    They are godless !

We need another person in the White House who knows what God wants !!

    McCain/Palin/Jesus  2008 !!!!

  5. Liberals and democrats aren't against the drawing upon faith but it is the tone in which it is used.

For example the following link http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080903/ap_o...

Demonstrates that Palin believe that she knows the desires of God.

When being told that God was on the side of the Union during the civil war, Lincon responded (I am paraphrasing) Let us not presume that God is on our side but rather that we are on God's side.

When anyone of anystripe pretends to "know what God wants" then it is a cause for concern, because the person making the statement is either:

    A. Pandering to an audience

    B. Out of any other valid argument other than using the God card

    C. Deluded and possibility psychotic

Democrats and liberals (not one in the same despite the conservative rhetoric) frequently make references to God and to faith. In fact many Democrats and liberals have been in the ministry.

The difficulty that they have is assuming that everyone is referenceing the same interpretation of God. When Palin refers to god or god's will is she refering to her Penticostal perception of God, or greater Universal sense of God?  Further how does she manage to reconcile her Pentacostal interpretation of God who wishes to wage war over say the Amish interpretation of god which wishes no violence against anyone ever?

Another difficulty isn't difficulty at all but rather respect for those of other faiths. Bear in mind that there is a large population of Americans who aren't evangelical christian and who aren't even christian. It is one thing to be a person of faith it is another to wear it on one's sleeve and potentially offend a large swath of the population.

In the end, this is what I think the founding fathers had in mind. Not that faith should be in the "public square" but rather that there are very many different faiths and that one shouldn't hold an overwhelming influence over the conversation.

  6. We aren't.  We are afraid of the words "fundamentalist religion"

Religion has nothing to do with God.

  7. Why do you assume Democrats are not Christians and do not speak of God?  Since when is God only a Republican?  Ever since the religious right took control of the GOP (God's Only Party) that only Christians are Republicans.

  8. We're not afraid. We just don't like her using God's name to justify a war. God would not approve of war. Do you understand what God is all about???????????????????????????????????...

  9. I am very comfortable with "my" God.  I am a born again Christian.  But, you see, God was very careful to tell me that killing was wrong.  I also learned to give Caesar what is Caesar's, and God forgot to mention that we needed to build a gas pipeline from the North Slope to the lower 48.  My God wants me to teach my children about birth control, too, because it's all part of the dominion He has entrusted us with.

  10. here's the deal with Dems/Libs (read Socialism/Communism):  if they didn't reject God, they would have to reject 'anything goes' lifestyles and especially abortion.

they want to make up their own definition of right and wrong.  once you realize that, you'll understand why they don't see any contradictions in their statements and deeds.

EDIT: 'separation of church and state' is NOT in the constitution.  the constitution only says the state cannot force religion on anyone - NOT that religion should be out of the public eye.  sheeee.

  11. Gee..  you got me thinking... you don't hear them being nearly as vocal about marginalizing, mocking,  and getting "Allah" out of the public forum.

  12. I'm an Independent and I believe in God, and am not afraid to say it.  What I can't stand is someone making it seem like God wanted this war in Iraq. This war was started based on a lie, and God was no where in it.

Edit - If God was for this war, that would make the U.S. "in the right", and I don't believe we would have lost over 4000 servicepeople if he was for it.

  13. Who gets to pick God, that is the problem.  You have almost 300 mil people here, with 300 mil different ideas on who/what/if God is.

  14. Because our country was founded on the principles of "freedom" and not "tyranny" and GOP Right Wing Conservatives version of God is the same as Al Queda and the Taliban...different versions, different stories, but all are true....I see an Armageddon in your future....

  15. I'm undecided.

But I don't like for ANY politician to say that they are doing God's work.I think that as a politician they should be able to separate their personal  belief system and understand that not everyone believes the same. I don't agree with extreme religious groups no matter what faith they may fall under & it does scare me that someone with an extreme view may get into power and not be "fair" to those of us who don't hold those beliefs.

I don't completely dislike her, I agree with her about the right to bear arms. But I don't like her views on abortion, I am not for late term, but I do believe in a women's right to choose and I don't like her views on that. I do feel that it comes from her very strict religious views.

  16. I'm a Democrat supporting McCain and Palin. I like to listen to the words of GOD.

  17. What she actually said is it is our task from God to pray about the war. To any christian that is truth. It is our task to pray. She did not tell us HOW to pray. The media (which are up Obamas' @ss) twisted the statement and gave it spin designed to benefit their sweetheart.

  18. Not afraid.  Respect and reverence.  We don't like to USE his word or ways for our own advantage especially for the destruction of ppl and the world that we live in.

  19. Because when people like Bush and Palin - who are false Christians use the Word "God" - their insult His very Being and this terrifies the h**l out of me!

Do you really believe that God told Palin that to invade Iraq was doing a task of God?

Since when did God need Bushs help?

  20. Because she used the phrase "task from God" in describing a war which, as it turns out, we got into because of incorrect information and Bush's deception.

This is not in touch with reality.

  21. It's that whole seperation of church and state. If people want to know about God, we go to church, not to politicians. Politicians should be talking about how they are going to help us, you know, what we pay them to do.

  22. Separation of church and state....it's in the constitution.  And I'm an undecided as of right now.

  23. If we call this war a task from God then what's the difference between us and the islamic terrorist calling this war a jihad (a holy war)?

It just shouldn't be done, period. Nobody is afraid to use the word "God" in its proper context.

  24. Because they CLAIM to be open-minded advocates of free speech, while they blast others for their religion

For those libs who will scream 'separation of church and state' while ignoring 'freedom of religion', they fail to mention that what Sarah said, was said in her CHURCH, not to any state

My religious views are my own, I don't share them with many people, I am not considered a 'Christian', but I AM tolerant of other peoples' religious beliefs.

"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God," she exhorted the congregants. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan." ~Sarah Palin

Basicly (since you didn't understand what she said, and have obviously never set foot in a church) she said to pray that whatever happens over there is the right thing according to God's will

And that's pretty much what has been said in just about EVERY church in America (except for Wright's church, of course)

    BTW:

"Lord - Protect my family and me," . "Forgive me my sins, and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will." ~Barack Obama

    http://my.barackobama.com/page/community...

  25. Apparently it makes them melt like sunlight to a vampire or water to the wicked witch of the west...

but i don't think it's to all libs/dems... just some that are around in this forum... I know many very godly people that are going to vote for Obama and support him..

America in Distress... have you ever read the Old Testament... if you have then how many times did God tell his people to go to war with another set of people? it is all over the Old Testament... I suggest you reread that and then make a comment like that... :/

Betty I think you need to read the constitution again... the seperation of church and state IS NOT in the constitution... It is an often misused phrase that is qouted from a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote while president... :/

  26. Democrats are not afraid of the word of God.  We don't like to hear it mis-quoted.  God has never told anyone to lie.  All of America and everywhere else knows that this war was started over the lie that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.  To my knowledge, these weapons have never been found.

It was about the oil all along you know and I know it.  That's why we're upset. That she would lie on God Almighty, Himself.  Oh she is a bold little lier.  She had better be careful though, because you reap what you sew.

  27. We are not a Christian Nation. We are supposed to be a nation that offers freedom to people of all religions. I don't want God in my government. As soon as you cross over into that territory you start creating a system where you force atheists and muslims and buddhists, etc. to pray like a christian in school. You start making decisions based on what God wants (you perhaps start using the military to do the will of God rather than to defend the American people?), and not the citizens.

A great deal of weight was handed to the concept of a church/state separation in this nation's creation. It's like that for a reason, a reason that is still relevant today. The government is built to serve and to defend the rights of everybody and once you start giving any religion too much power that duty gets compromised.

As for a christian majority in this country I would say, "beware the tyranny of the majority." We formed this country looking for religious freedom.

    **************

And I have talked about how the Muslims have gotten a complete raw deal from pretty much all angles, and how unfortunate it is that people feel that they are allowed to speak so prejudicially about their faith simply because of the political climate. The Muslims are treated horribly on these boards and it barely seems to move the dial.

  28. I'm not afraid of the word "God."  I'm afraid of demagogues who use God to promote their personal extremist views.  I think the entire Republican party - including Palin - is now dominated by evangelical "christians" who want to impose their views on the US.  To me, that's just as bad as radical muslims who want to impose their views on Pakistan, etc.  Religion and politics don't mix.  When we move away from being a secular republic, we lose freedom and undercut the values on which this nation was founded.

  29. The word God is nothing to be afraid of.  What I am afraid of is when she says things like it is God's task that we bring war to the Iraqi people (check youtube if you don't believe me).  For anyone to think God is in support of any war and wants to run or co-run this country should be troubling for any 'true' Christian.

  30. If you remove God, you remove the standard.  Regardless of the religion, the belief in a supreme being has attached to it a certain moral code and the idea that human beings are supposed to be responsible and accountable for their actions.  Liberals believe that they are the masters of their own destiny and have the right to decide what's right and wrong based on their own individual beliefs.  Great way to rationalize murder, rape, sociopathy, sexual exploitation of children, drug abuse, spousal abuse, child abuse, and anything else a society finds deplorable, isn't it?

  31. Because she shouldn't press personal religion beliefs on other people. People should not feel as if the public feels that certain religions are "wrong". Democrats (I'm not sure about Liberals) find themselves trying to speak for the American public as a whole, not a certain few. That's why they keep the discussion of God out of what they say (unless it's about their own personal beliefs).
