Why are the Olympics and Para-Olympics not run at the same time?

Most people i know reckon that all Olympians should compete along side each other not segregated. The athletes that compete in the Para-Olympics should not be hidden, they have just as much pride in their countries as the next person and should be able to show their talent in front of the world alongside those without disabilities.

  1. I'm not sure why they r not run at the same time but I'm disgusted that they are not televised the para olympians train just as hard if not harder and deserve alot more credit than what they get

  2. Couldn't agree more it's time we stopped treating these world class athletes with disrespect and put them on the world stage right alongside their fellow countrymen and women.

  3. Well said to you both i have a brother who wants to be part of the Para-Olympic team but i reckon he should be part of the Olympic team as there should not be a Para team all athletes should compete at the same time

  4. Interesting you brought this up, cuz I thought about this yesterday and concluded that there should be no paralympics.

But rather a paralyzed basketball, 100m track, long jump, etc. Just like how the male sports are not separated from the women sports even though the male sports are superior skillwise, the women sports just get referred to as womens _________ that's how it should be for the paralyzed or disabled it should be mens basketball, womens basketball and disabled mens basketball and disabled womens basketball. Just a normal part of the olympics as with the mens and womens.

  5. The media would focus on the Olympic and the

Paralympic ( with no O) would not get the coverage they deserves

So it was agree that the Paralympic should be after the Olympics

Torch relay stay 28 of August and games start 6 of September

Should I tell you they are not all in wheelchairs some are vision impaired, amputees, cerebral palsy ( some use wheelchairs and some don't)

In Australia they have been televisied since 92 but not alot.

so I went to the games in Sydney and had a great time just watching.

This year ABC 2 are doing 8 hour per day
