  1. This is why...

There are four major terrorist groups active in the Philippines today: The Moro National Liberation Front, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, Abu Sayyaf and the New People's Army. The first three are Islamic groups that operate primarily in the south of the nation, where most of the country's Muslim minority live. The Communist New People's Army operates in the northern Philippines.

The Philippines have been terrorized for so long by these groups, it is difficult to bring in tourism, increase economy, and increase confidence in the people.  The US has stepped in as of 2005 but there are still many issues to address.

  2. lack of government support and funding is a part of it. there are private sports facilities that can put out Olympic athletes but no development programs to lead to it.

i personal gripe is with all of the big name companies that use the Olympics in promotions but do not really support the games. the POC could only send 15 athletes but Petron spent millions on their giveaways to the games, they should of used it to support a event and help fund some one to compete

  3. It basically boils down to lack of budget. Even if there are good athletes in the Philippines, but if there is no budget to help them develop their skills (facilities, recruitment, training, etc.), then they would not be very competetive.

  4. we lack world-class training facilities.

  5. the Philippines has good Olympic athletes... they just didn't win medals in Beijing. why?

    1. Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia are the only countries in the world who actually care about Badminton & Ping Pong

    2. Thailand actually screwed the Philippines in Olympic Boxing qualifiers because they can't beat the Philippines in pro boxing even if their judges scream "HAY!" for every Thai boxer throwing a punch including those that hit nothing. (Thai pro boxing rules state that one has to KO a Thai opponent to win, otherwise they lose in a Unanimous Decision) that's why only 1 boxer qualified for Beijing.

    3. Philippine media hyped our Taekwondo athletes like they were the best Taekwondo jins in Asia.

    4. nobody expected a weightlifting medal from our weightlifter.

  6. .... who says that they are not Good?.. they were the chosen one to represent the Country.. its just that.. someone is better than them.

  7. have you been to the philippines?

    poverty.

playing games is not thier main focus

  8. they still drink milo.

  9. It so happened that the ability and stamina of the foreign atheletes are greater than the Filipinos.

  10. that athlete is out there , somewhere in the philippines. its just not properly fully trained. 40% known the sport. 60% lack of guidance, moral support & funding. he or she is out there waiting for a chance or just waiting to just watch it on TV or read it on the newspaper for the year 2012.does any body remember Lydia de vega?

  11. our athletes do their best but their best aren't enough.

they're also aren't supported by our government. )));  it's soo sad, we didn't got at least a bronze medal.

  12. 1. no proper training like what US athletes have.

    2. no overwhelming support from the government since it is not really a priority of the government with issues such as security, poverty, education, health, and etc to deal with.

and most importantly, 3. lack of money for athlete's compensation. who would like to be a low-earning athlete in a country with soaring prices of commodities?

  13. They do have  lots of good athletes, so sad to say people who enter olympics are by choice, seems that whom you know so you'll be in!

Look at Taiwan, a very small country and yet they got 4 bronze, because the government supports them a lot, win or loose they're given an award when they got back!

Don't say poverty - look at Somalia, they only have 2 athletes and still they're outstanding... no food, no facilities at all, they have streets with bombs huh!

  14. Politics and money.

I believe there are many raw talented and gifted athletes who were born into poor families will never be discovered.

  15. becasue they are too poor to help fund the athletes

  16. Filipinos are known to be talented and skillful. However, the national government are not fully supportive on developing those young people to excel its respective field. Government should give more emphasis on training these people by providing better sport facilities, tournaments, etc. to better enhance their skills.

  17. If being an athlete will provide living for the people in the Philippines then by now they got tons of representative for the Olympics.
