  1. I don't know. But I know Georgia's government is democratically elected, and Russia said in the UN that they want the Georgian president gone.

Georgia is friendly with the US, which I guess bugs Russia. Georgia has troops in the war on terror, in Iraq and/or Afghanistan.

Putin of Russia is slouching toward dictatorship.

  2. If you look back in history, millions of people have always died in that area so it's not right that the requisite millions have not died in decades.  It's just the world correcting.  I'm worried about bush "warning" Russia.  He's warning a world power.  How idiotic is this person?  Yikes!!

  3. The poster above me is correct but also..

The Georgians attacked a breakaway region in Georgia which had many Russians citizens living in it, so Russia retaliated. Russia is trying to flex it's muscle to the west and basically telling them to keep their nose out of their affairs (since georgia wants to join nato).

  4. Russia did not invade Georgia, they just protect people of South Ossetia from killing. It's not that case when USA invaded Iraq for oil.

You just don't know the truth. Did you heard about Tskhinvali? There is no this city anymore, 3000 people were killed by Georgia! and you say that Russia is aggressor?

  5. Because Georgia wants to join NATO and Russia thinks it is losing influence in the region

  6. Read J.Taplin's blog at:  www.jtaplin.wordpress.com

  7. Because Russia is looking for the Attention deserve only by a real superpower.

  8. all good answers so far and correct. The "Break away" region is only breaking away because of russian funding to rebels, not truly breaking away. And it's truly hypocritical of russia to do so after the way it dealt with chechnya. They are also trying to retain their power in the region. At least that's their thinking. The truth is that they lost their power a decade and a half ago and the oil has returned it and they are flexing new power (their military is only effective because they can finally pay for it). They don't like the idea of Georgia or the Ukraine joining nato so they are trying more direct methods of getting their way. The joke about oil.... not really a joke, they are trying to disrupt the region's only competing oil company's pipeline as we speak.

Now to my contribution, they are also trying to regain all the territory they lost after the soviet union dissolved, they mistakenly think all those places belong to them.

  9. They are on their way to the middle east for the oil
