  1. It's actually a UN concern as well as a concern of all people concerned with freedom and liberty.  He staged an election that he knew he was going to loose.  He flat out told people he would not step down as president and essentially made himself a despot leader.  He was elected and did a poor job the people of Zimbabwe deserve to vote him out.

  2. Probably because he's always accused them of being evil imperialists.

  3. From the point of view of most Africans the problem stems from Mugabe committing the most heinous type of crime i.e. "black/native on white crime" by taking away land from the white settlers to give it away to black farmers (land that was taken away by British colonial forces, blacks were not allowed to own land). If Mugabe had stuck to the more common dictatorial "black/native on black/native crime" he would probably not have been bothered as one can clearly see from the absence of UK, US or UN sanctions on the likes of Bashir of Sudan where over 500'000 natives have killed or Korea where it's been going on for much longer with much worse statistics.

If the African Americans, who make up about 10% of the US population, were to own over 45% of the of the agricultural land in the US, the KKK would probably win the elections.

In Zimbabwe the white minority, making up under 2.5% of the population owned over 45% of the total land, which represented over 65% of the best agricultural land.WE should also remember that from 1930 blacks in Zimbabwe were barred from owning land which their forefathers had had in their possession for centuries.

At Independence in 1980, the British established as a condition that the whites Zimbabweans who represented 2.5% of the total population should retain control of the police, army, navy, all the land they currently held and 20% of the political seats and the administration. If you read about racism in Europe (see Wikipedia link below) you will realise that the Zimbabweans have far more tolerant than their European counterparts...

The current internal strife in Zimbabwe is the result of mounting food shortage and lack of jobs , thanks in parts to unilateral sanctions on the parts of the UK and the US. Till then the locals were not unhappy with Mugabe, or at least not that much....

Mugabe is a leader who has served his purpose and needs to retire, at the end of a bayonet if necessary, but as long the west focusses mostly on Zimbabwe (only conflict were whites were targetted) and not on countries like Sudan or Uganda where far more people keep on dying then other African nations will not take any action.

ps: Rwanda recently voiced some negative remarks about Mugabe's actions and roughly around the same time (before or after), UN Security Council lifted the arms embargo imposed against it. This is the same country where nearly 1 million people were killed in ethnic cleansing while the world looked on (here too, there were no whites involved).

The only country that intervened in Rwanda was Uganda.
