Question:

Why are the bottom leaves on my African violet drooping?

Everything else on the plant- looks green snd healthy- except for the bottm leaves curling downward.

  1. In most cases, the first two posters are correct.  However, if you water the plant from the top, it could be the start of stem rot.  African violets do best when watered from the bottom meaning having a saucer under the pot (the pot has holes for drainage in it) and putting the water in there and allowing the plant/dirt to absorb the water as it needs it.  They also benefit from the increased humidity in the air.  They are actually a tropical plant and like it humid!


  2. Yes I agree, just older leaves. Eventually your plant will have a long stalk and start to lean over. At that point you may wish to consider starting new plants from the leaves (or you can do that earlier).

  3. That is a common occurrence and nothing is wrong, it's just that newer leaves are forming and the older ones gives way and falls off as the plant grows.
