  1. because they were the first one to come up and you need to remove them to give strengh to the plant .

  2. Yellowing can be a couple of things, a nitrogen deficiency or if the plant is very large and those leaves are on the ground they tend to soak up too much water and get less sunlight.  When leaves are damaged as such the nutrients try to go to the damaged leaves  which in turn deprive the remainder of the plant .  Trim off those yellowed leaves so that only healthy leaves flourish.  Trim or tie up any leaves that are lying on the ground, this will promote better health for your plants.

  3. If the leaves are completely yellow--no green veins--then the leaves are dying and that's a common thing in growing plants and the older leaves dying off gives more energy to fruit-producing leaves.  If there is green in the veins it's a nitrogen deficiency in older leaves.  IF new leaves have green veins but are turning yellow, it's an iron deficiency.

Just remove the dying leaves.  The plants will thank you for that and you may even see a growth spurt.

  4. Yellowing on older leaves is some times a sign of nitrogen deficiency.
