Why are the colors black,white, and red used in infant toys?

With infants the 0-6 months toys use a lot of red, black, and white. Why?

  1. An infants eye sight is not nearly as developed as yours or mine.  Think of them like dogs who see black, white and red best.  At this age they have a very hard time seeing any other color especially pastels.  Primary colors are also used a lot, especially in older infant/toddler toys.


  2. These colors are most easily distinguished from each other. Babies can see in color, but pastels are not as easy for them to focus on. The assumption is that the stark contrast between these 3 colors helps the baby's eyes to focus on the image and attracts attention better than softer colors that are more closely related.

  3. Because their eyes are not fully developed. They do not see lots of colors very well.  They can see the color contrasts of red, white, black.
