Why are the different roads in U,S. are named as Road,Blvd,Avenues,Street,... and lanes?

so the map makers have something to put on the paper and it also designates the type of highway, alley, path, tollway, bridge, footpath, track, thoroughway, one way, cross street, and on and on ------- if you just called it  &quot;&quot;Jones&quot;&quot; how would you know if you were driving to an address or if you were lost and looking for &quot;John J. Jones&quot;  === the road designation gives you a clue of destination and delineation and it also makes for good order as opposed to chaos...........
