  1. Probably because the English owned half of the world at one point.

  2. Underdogs are always loved and the masters hated.Ask why America and russia are despised,it's for the same reasons.People get power by oppressing, but the oppressed come out smelling roses

  3. Really? Well if anyone hates us it could be because we tried to take over the world a little bit. Sorry about that XD The Irish and Scots are loved because they always seem friendly (well...sometimes) and they love a drink. Plus - s**y accents.

  4. I think people just love to hate us, lol!

  5. I thought everyone loved the English, excuse some African states who refer to colonialism when it suits them

  6. It dates back in history when the English conquered most of the world and tried to force their customs on them. It left a lot of bitterness. And everyone loves Ireland because it's the land of a hundred thousand welcomes-'céad míle fáilte'! Don't know about the scots though...

  7. coz we rock and english tend to be arrogant when abroad

  8. The English aren't hated the world over, and as far as most of the world is concerned the Scottish and the Irish are regarded as English too.

  9. I'm Irish and I like the English. I dislike the "feudal" english of old, the kind of colonial english who basically raped the empire's colonies but nearly every european power did that kind of stuff. The modern english are a very fairminded people.Yes, they've inherited a legacy from their forefathers in africa, iraq and northern Ireland but they didn't bug out and they are doing their best to undo the crimes of their past empire rather than abandonning places to chaos. In the end too, we the wronged have to draw a line on the past too and recognise our own element in our problems. That Tony Blair was a leader the world has never known and when you listen to sky news his detractors in labour had names like ours( Irish) and were doing the old irish trick of scrambling for the high moral ground and criticising Blair for addressing the mess induced by the arrival of the Islamic cult, Alqueda and its schizotypal leader Osama, a hitler we could easily do without. Its a shame the critics got rid of this great Brit. In the long term people will realise he had the right ideas and the balls to take the unpopular decisions. I was born into a republican family and I've voted for Sinn Fein since I was 18 years old but if the Queen came to Dublin I'd go and see her because she is part of a britain that has faced up bravely to its past mistakes and paid the price itself in some of the terrible stuff I supported and can only ask for forgiveness for. They're good people:)

  10. The Empire of the old English Monarchs has caused them to be hated all over the world.

  11. its called jelousy,we have what no other country has,(maybe not for the last 25 years)then we had the best of the best in most things, remember this that the world would not be as it is (still living as they were 300 years ago)and for showing people the right way to behave and live,if the english are so bad then why are there irish ,scotish, welsh and a vast amount from all over the world gaging to get into the place,

  12. Strange that.  Wherever I've been, the English and the Irish are very popular because they spends lots of money, but the Scots ...

  13. Hi History speaks for itself..The super powers of the old world England,Spain,France all of these countries invaded any country that they could , more so for personal gain , As far as England go no matter what country your in and learn history always Ireland and Scotland and not lets forget Wales are all related, all of these Celt background  countries were invaded by England ... Scotland seem to have independance almost , Wales are still under the hammer and Ireland got there independance back in 1916 and most of the teritory..Im not to sure of the scottish but the Irish are loved In MOST places (DID YOU EVER SEE FATHER TED).. DRINK ,DRINK ,DRINK .. The emerald isle the land of Fairies ,Banshees, and the good EWL Leprechaun ..Good Luck Now..Regards Steve

  14. Arrogance, ignorance, and self importance.  Sorry, that's Americans not English.  Oops, I was right the first time.

  15. Catch 'Otto' in "a fish called Wanda" letting 'Archie' the barrister have it with both barrels, and, you will know!

  16. Watch Braveheart. You'll see why the Scottish wanted their freedom from England. And you shouldn't have forgotten Wales in your question.

And people in North America ( not all of them mind you) dont understand the whole soccor, sorry football thing. And the men are a little different. Not macho men like in NA.

  17. maybe because people of other countries think the people of the U.S are like the president.

  18. And you show your ignorance,by forgetting the WELSH!

  19. I am not sure the premise of your question is true.

  20. I didn't know we were hated the world over... ? :\

A lot of people probably mistake us Brits (which is the correct term, not English) for Americans, that's why. Loads of people dislike the USA, so probably just assume we are like them - we are most certainly not!

  21. I don't think the scots are loved the world over, although I think you're right about the Irish. Maybe it's their 'happy go lucky' reputation...

Oh and we used to run/own the vast majority of the free world (and committed some heinous crimes under that veil)

  22. Well, im an Assyrian, not etnically English. Us Assyrians dont hate the English!

However i think you are wrong. The only places you will find hatred of the English are in Meditteranean Beach resorts that aim their marketing towards the lowest level of English(and Scottish, Welsh and Irish) people.

So if you go to Majorca, Kos, Cyprus, Ibiza or Southern Spain you will find many people that hate the English...this is because of the fat, drunken, trailer park trash that go to these places.

I have never known Scottish, Irish or Welsh people to be any more or less popular than the English....apart from in Boston and New York....there are a lot of so called "Irish Americans" there who know nothing of irish culture, and hate the English, and are too stupid to realise that Irish and English get on well these days!

Those people mentioning the British Empire should realise that Scotland, Ireland And Wales were all part of the United Kingdom, and there were hundreds of thousands of soldiers and many Generals from these peoples, all willingly taking part in the expansion of Empire.

In any case, the Empire was NOT a bad thing, like all empires it had many plus points, in fact more plusses than minuses.

Some former colonials DO have an inferiority complex, after all the USA, Australia etc would not exist without the English, who founded their countries!

But most people have a healthy respect and admiration for traditional English values, and English Culture, Literature,Music, Scientific advancements etc etc.

They rightly have contempt for the subhuman "Chav" underclass that is sullying the English reputation abroad....but this species is just as common in Scotland Ireland and Wales.

  23. Where on earth did you get that from ?

  24. Bit of a provocative generalisation, that. As well you know . . .

  25. The English (if not mistaken for americans) aren't hated the world over, in fact in most countries I've been they are well-respected.  The reason the Irish and Scots are loved, is for their "exotic touch" and for being the eternal underdogs.  We all love underdogs, dunwe?

  26. i think that's a bit of a generalisation!

  27. I can't imagine where you get your information from.  Bold statements like this mean little.  It's like saying that all women like shopping or all men drink beer and and are obsessed by sport.
