Question:

Why are the frames for new eyeglasses I ordered always cracking even before I get them?

I recently ordered new eyeglasses and selected plastic frames. After about ten days I received a phone call from the optician saying there was a problem. The frames cracked when they attempted to put the lenses in them. I told them to try again with the same style. Another week and I get a call that the same thing happened. Now I'm getting suspicious. I've never had this happen before. Are these people just incompetent or are they hoping to try and force me into purchasing more fancy and expensive frames because I chose the least expensive ones?

  1. The optician might check with the company that made them and see if they have had other complaints about those frames (maybe a bad batch of plastic or some design flaw?). I doubt the optician would deliberately mess up the job twice since he is probably going to be the one stuck with the expense of the broken frames, not you.

  2. That's hard to say...it may be a real cheap frame, or very rough technicians.

It doesn't sound like it will last you long even when you DO get it if it breaks that easy.

  3. Plastic frames can cause problems for installing lenses.  To put lenses in some frames, some labs will heat the frame to get flexibility and at times that will cause cracking.  As long as they aren't charging you for each frame and you like and still want the frame...you may have to wait.  If the frame is from a manufacture with poor quality...that wait could be awhile.

    Good Luck

  4. Old plastic will crack and break easy and when they have to use heat on them it is worse mine the glass would fall out or the ears would break so it must be a real bad batch and thank you for telling us.
