Question:

Why are the fuel cell vehicles currently in production not designed with an electrolysis system included?

With electrolysis, the vehicle would only need access to electricity to refuel, instead of having to pump more hydrogen into it. Is there a problem with the efficiency of electrolysis or the time it would require?

  1. Because it requires immense amounts of energy to break the atomic bonds in water.  You would be putting in more energy than you get out by burning the hydrogen fuel.

Unless we find a way to weaken those atomic bonds, electrolysis will be an impractical solution.

  2. because electrolysis is not a very efficient way to produce hydrogen, steam reforming of methane is much less energy intensive.

  3. The electrolysis would require more power . U cannot get something for nothing.
