Why are the `garages` in new build houses so narrow?

If you drove your car into one you wouldn`t be able to get out would you?

Perhaps builders should be `done` under the trades descriptions act???

  1. Once upon a time, we used to drive MUCH larger vehicles.

  2. Its not just the garages.   Wendy houses.

  3. I'm building a house atm and I think I've the garage is quite large for a single.

It looks narrower on the left because of the thickness of the stone cladding but it's equal distance on each side of the door on the inside.

  4. Cost saving.

  5. They should be done then asked to park in a 'garage' and punched on the nose every time they opened the car door against the wall

  6. they are all built so close together to save space and to make the maximum ammount of money.

there have been builders in our area who buy a house with a little bit of land, knock the house down and build 3 or 4 in its place.

  7. build them cheap as possible and as fast as possible to make the most amount of profit possible

  8. To force you to park in the street and get fined for it.

All about income for the borough !

  9. Because the builders want to maximise the profits using the least amount of space.  The houses are knocked up as fast as possible using the cheapest materials/methods available so that they can benefit as much as possible from the housing boom.

There is more kudos in having a 4 bed house with small bedrooms than having a 2/3 bed house with good sized bedrooms.  The garage was possibly compromised to make the kitchen bigger because of the current TV chefs/cooking programmes.

I personally wouldn't build a new house.  I have only bought the older bigger houses, over 75 years old.  They are built better, the only down side is the higher ceilings which can lead to slightly higher heating costs.
