  1. Well, the government wants all of our money and they will get it any way that they can. When they raise gas prices it costs more for truckers to transport the food from place to place because of gas prices, therefore, food prices rise...

  2. Food prices go up due to the truck drivers delivery costs from wholesalers to retail stores.

  3. When gas prices rise it causes inflation, which in turn causes food prices to rise as well. Its all economics!

  4. I've ridden a bike or taken mass transit for the past 20 years. The reason food prices and gasoline is so expensive is because of the decline in production of oil worldwide. For details please see:

    "Hubbert's Peak Theory"

    "Peak Oil"

It's simple economics. The world is pumping less crude oil each year and the world economy wants more (particularly China, United States, and EU) Most agricultural production is dependent on oil for fertilizers, cultivation, and transportation.

  5. Well,I'm a Chinese guy,and maybe I can offer you some analysis made by most of my compatroits that we've agreed on.First, nowadays, more and more nantions are addicted into planting economic crops, such as,corns, which actually occupies most of the field for rice and wheat that we need to support our lives! Therefore, please plant more rice and wheat instead of a large amount of economic crops that are for machinery.Second,as that guy mentioned, the rise of transportation costs results in the rise of food price. In China,we've met the shortage of food, but the food price is also increasing rapidly! However,it must be very cheap for you guys, for example, pork $4.6 per Kilo. You know, more and more farmers abondan their farmland and rush into metropolises ,which results in the food price of our country.OK,it's just for your reference.

  6. Gas is going up so much because there is a "limited quantity" the whole world has. Since gas is going to be a rare commodity in the future, it is in high demand with a low supply. Gas suppliers, taking advantage of this situation raise their prices for max profit.

Food, like any other commodity has to be shipped. Any way you ship stuff, via automobile, plane, or ship, needs gas. In turn, shippers have to pay more for gas, and food vendors have to pay more for shipping because gas is so expensive.

  7. apparantly america and china are demanding so much oil that the demand is greater, which means the demand is higher here and they are asking more for a barrell of oil and that means we pay more for fuel.....this has a knock on effect on food prices, because trucks are paying more for diesel they are charging more for delivery which means the supermarkets re-coop this by charging more for their food.

Bread and dairy products seem to be charging the most due to the costs in fuel to produce them as well as deliver them etc... and companies cant afford to give payrises so we struggle to buy food.....

If china etc would cut down their demand for oil then we might stand a chance of getting it at a normal price again!
