  1. If they are connected in parallel and one bulb burns out, the rest keep working. And there is just one bad bulb easy to see which one it is. If they were connected in series, then the entire line wouldn't work - and it's tough work figuring out which one is the faulty bulb. So you are paying for convenience more than anything else.

  2. parallel connections just mean that if a bulb burns out it will not turn the rest of the string off, and they are more expensive mostly because of this. Yes it does cost a little more to manufacture but mostly it costs more because people are willing to pay more for the better product. (Older decroative lighting strings were wired in series so if the 3rd bulb down the line went out only the first 2 would remain on and the rest of the bulbs would be dark)

  3. Its best to have the lights in parrallel because if they were in series, and one of the bulbs blew, the entire circuit would be broken. This would mean all the lights went out, and you'd have a hard job finding the guilty light - you'd have to go through all of them, replacing them one by one.

In a parallel circuit, though, each light has its own mini circuit, so if it blows, the rest of the lights can stay on as the main circuit has not been broken. So you can find the little blighter without too much trouble.

They are more expensive because it takes more complicated wiring systems and more wire. You've got to join all those seperating parallel circuits together which takes time effort and equipment.

  4. when one bulb gets busted the other bulbs will still light and they get more electricity and then they get brighter
