Why are the olympics every 4 years?

in ancient literature olympiad is 4 years and the games then were held on completion of an olympiad - i.e. once in 4 years.  Hence the mordern olympics is also held once in 4 years.

An olympiad is the duration starting from the summer olympics and ending with the opening games of the next summer olympics.

There is alot of preparation in making the Olympics.

The ceremonies and everything take alot of time to get ready.

Plus, athletes need a considerable period of time to practice.

There is an ancient length of time called the Olympiad that has been measured dating back to the BC era. Every 4 years on the Olympiad dating back to ancient times a competition of sport has been held. The "Modern" version of the Olympics began 29 Olympiads ago, thus why this is being called the XXIX Olympics.
